Burn Permit Information

Burn permits are very important, as they notify us that you are burning. If 911 dispatch gets a call from a concerned neighbor that sees smoke and we do not have a burn permit, the entire department prepares to go to fight a fire at your home. Please help us help you best by getting your burn permit. Thanks!

Warden’s Report offers FREE burn permits.  If the site is not allowing you to submit, then the weather conditions are not suitable for burning. In that case, DO NOT BURN!!

Open burning requires a permit. A permit obtained from another town is not valid in Georgetown. The permit must be in your possession before starting the fire. You must remain at an open burn until it is completely extinguished.

Permits may only be issued after 9 AM on the day of the burn! The Maine Forest Service issues daily Wildfire Danger Predictions daily at that time. The predicted fire danger must be no higher than Class 1 or 2.
